What is this?

I suspect it is a home made construction of some sort, and I am sceptical that it actually flew. I can't see an engine unless it is hidden behind the two people. I'll try and find out more from where I got the photo from, but thought it was interesting.

Well the place you found it is usually the best clue.

Looks very early for a monoplane. I dont see how that prop is going to clear the ground though...

Some of the very early aircraft were indeed monoplanes. The early pioneer, Santos Dumont built very petite monoplanes which he called the Demoiselle. This is a modern replica but it is exactly as Santos-Dumont designed it -



Of course, Louis Blériot's aeroplanes were monoplanes too -

On reflection I think this is the probable answer. The prop is wrong and it's in a little compound with people round it. Given the location, maybe cashing in on the Bleriot flight.
