Sir you are quite right......very old news, having searched a bit further.....lol

I just saw it being recycled on Liveleak, and was daft enough not to check dates etc.

Thing is, the link you posted was uploaded to youtube yesterday and already has half a million view. Was it on last nights Top Gear or something?

Yeah it is a bit strange that. I first saw it on Liveleak and then went on very short hunt on Youtube and found that link to the same video.

My question still stands though, about the apparent higher beard ratio with military helicopter pilots. Or is it just in my head?

I posted a thread about this in General Gassing but I guess the more knowledgeable fly-ey types all hang out here. I was interested to know the cause of the crash, many suggested pilot error but I wasn't really convinced as he'd been flipping the bird around quite happily prior to that so interesting to hear it was actually a component failure which caused the crash.

I also assumed it was military but the fact that it's privately owned turns up some other interesting questions like

1) How come it still has it's mini gun mounted?

2) Who is liable to pay for this crash, I don't think the insurance company would take too kindly to it being crashed because "I was p*ssing about chasing a car for a TV programme".

Gun has probably been permanently disabled.

If the pilot was complying with aerobatic endorsements on his licence and they had permission for low level areobatics, then I'm guessing the insurer will be paying up. Very little will happen in aviation without a lot of paperwork.
