Two Tornado's!

So I'm staying for a week in Dornie with the mrs and dogs. Standing on the deck of the holiday cottage with a cuppa - literally out of no where comes two Tornado's flying quite slow and low through the moutains. About 600-700 feet away. One behind the other. Absolutely brilliant!!

Don't see military aircraft to often in this part of the country but a few weeks ago two Tornados passed over my house quite low heading west. To the East the sky was clear blue but there was fairly low cloud to the West and as the approached the cloud they both swept their wings and climbed at a great rate. Was lovely to view.
Don't mean a thing if it ain't swing wing!! Sorry ex GR4 groundcrew. My stand out moment was when I first started out on 2(AC)Sqn. I and another fellow liney were out servicing a jet. We were told the sqn would be having a "fly over" as one of the aircrew were moving to pastures new. I was sat on the air intake as I saw the incoming jet drop its altitude with wings swept back. Low fast and loud was awesome to feel the air disturbance as it went past. Mental!!
At work we get a pretty regular stream of training traffic following the river down the valley and a brace of tornados makes the whole building shake a little, seems to be more rotary traffic these days though with Chinooks, Merlins and Squirels several times a week if the weather isn’t too nasty.

More than likely to be out of Lossiemouth if you are where google maps has said you are lol. But Marham tonkas aren't shy from blasting the scottish highlands I'll be armed with the camera tomorrow...

I used to work at a quiet, rural airfield. We had 'offered' the place to the Tornado Sqns at Lossie as an airfield attack target, and every so often their ops would phone and book a slot. We'd make sure the circuit was clear and they'd give us a shout on the air/ground frequency that they had a minute to run or whatever. One morning we had a two-ship co-ordinated attack come through at about 540 knots with reheat in. No-one had told my mate Tom, who managed to fall off the top of the fuel bowser when the first jet went over...
a few years ago , i was driving a train up to millerhill ( edinburgh ) .
after crossing the border we take a left turn at burnmouth .
when i had finished the turn a tornado came VERY low over the railway heading right for me .
i could see the red trestle marks on the drop tanks !
when i lost sight the noise hit , over the noise of the loco .
very impressive !

I used to walking in the lakes when I was younger (and a lot lighter), I remember walking down from Scafell Pye (I think), hearing jets, scanning the sky, could not see a thing, then they appeared, about 1000 ft below us. Magical!

It's always a treat seeing this kind of stuff - they're awesome, aren't they?
I lived South of Norwich for a few years recently - and I was quite spoilt by airbourne Petrolheadedness, living as I did between Lakenheath and Marham air bases.
Probably the most fun of all was when I was in a Jet Ranger above a Welsh valley one day, and something (I can't remember off the top of my head what it was - possibly a Tornado) came steaming along the valley floor, UNDERNEATH our helicopter...
