Supposedly, on the news yesterday was a story that Lossiemouth is getting them. But I missed it and can't find anything mainstream or local that has anything more than conjecture.

Anyone got an insight/inkling/should-be-shredded-memo?

The crux is that 617 Squadron will be the first RAF squadron to operate JSF... People seem to have put 2 and 2 together that this means Lossie gets JSF! A numberplate is exactly that, I'm at Lossie currently and the plan AIUI is that Lossie gets Typhoon and JSF goes 'somewhere' (Marham or Yeovilton my guesses). Standby for a basing announcement in the near future though...

This.

(assuming with the sequestration problems now facing the US, that they don't bin the F-35 program - which would leave us up the whotzit, but may have been Call Me Dave's plan all along, given that the rumour was that US Govt dropped heavy hints to not change back to Dave B - perhaps because they always had it in their mind that the B & C would get binned from the programme and thus Cameron then has a legit reason to bin the two carriers as there will be no a/c to operate from them)

Thanks all. Hadn't realised it was part of the 'Dambusters' continuing story.

Seems military history/tradition is very powerful. I see the press' story has now moved on to the Desert Rats being robbed of their tanks.

The current Regular Army Basing Plan has the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards moving to Leuchars (from Fallingbostel) in 2015.

That would mean that I(F) Sqn and 6 Sqn move to Lossie with their Typhoons

The Tornados remain at Marham until they are replaced. Indeed, the post of Tornado Force Commander (an Air Cdre) has recently been set up at Marham and the base remains the centre for Expeditionary Air Warfare.

Additionally it's in a Conservative ward so I don't se it closing anytime soon.

If they re-surface the runway however.........

The RAF has moved their x-ray facility to Lossie from Kinloss (which was de-RAF'ed last summer); in past times when the units were decommissioned they were taken to St Athan, which suggests they predict an on-going need to x-ray something at Lossie wink

Yes, the RAF essentially will just have 3 fast jet bases.......... all Tornados at Marham with Tiffies at Lossie and Coningsby........shocking really.

Leuchars Battle of Britain display this September will be the last one, and possibly the last ever traditional RAF Battle of Britain At Home display, given that it was now the last base to hold one (unless Coningsby will now hold one instead)

Sorry I was being sarcastic - I know the SNP will be claiming this is planned. They seem to support defence when it suits them...
