Hi,
I know this might be a big ask, and I've not yet consulted Google, but does anyone know if there is a list of class 08's currently in active UK service and used by whom?

I understand some intermodal companies such as freight liner and EWS still use them, but do any private companies. While on the subject, is there also a resource for class 10's?

Cheers
Pete

EFA, blasted iPad put "ewes" instead of EWS which is a moot point because it's now DB Schenker I think.....

I've seen one in Stobart colours which would seem to confirm your second point.

Locos in storage, north-west:

92001 92004 92005 92007 92008 92009 92012 92013 92017 92022 92024 92026 92029 92035

I bet they'll be a whole lot less interesting than I'd like.

Seeing this thread has just reminded me how much I miss driving 08s and 09s - not the most comfortable locos to spend a whole shift on but great to drive and 'play with'. Happy days ;-)

I used to "train spot" when I was a kid in the late 70's, still amazes me when I see loco's that I recognize the numbers of today. 08 Class always bring a smile along with 37's.

Hi
P5nij, I see in that pic the 08 has a buckeye on it. Interesting, the ones I've worked with didn't have one.

I have also heard from a mate at Freight Liner that they have banned the shunters using the shunters steps a while ago, this was due to an incident when a shunter was stood on a step and the loco had a collision with either a wagon left foul or another loco, it apparently hit on the "step" where the bloke was stood and caused the vertical handrail to fold in onto him, causing some pretty nasty injuries.(I will try to get more details this evening)

AFAIK this is now standard practice across FL and might have been adopted by GBRf also for H&S reasons. shame that something designed for a specific job has been found to fall foul of good old 'elf and safety.

Lovely old bit of British engineering.

Yes, there are still some 08s fitted with buckeyes, although I've no idea why that particular one at Washwood Heath has them - I'll ask next time I'm in there ;-)

The rule on riding on the steps of 08s / 09s has changed now - I didn't know about that particular incident though... sounds very nasty.

Odd, isn't it, that as a design the class 08s are actually a few years older than the 9Fs.

I notice there's never any price indications. An old school mate is in charge of a group that owns four peaks, can I get out of him how much they were?

Can I buggery.
