Just (regrettably) seen the video of it on Live Leak, bloody horrific to watch.

Rumour is that the cargo shifted during take-off.

Probably not appropriate to link, I'm sure you can Google/ search Live Leak if you need to see it.

Yup hence why I held off posting a link to it.

It's a horrible incident. I really feel for the families of the 7 crew killed.

Someone has posted the link in the Youtube thread... not sure how long that will remain before being deleted/removed.

Pretty awful - obviously in serious trouble as soon as it left the ground.

I'm guessing thats when the cargo shifted, altered the centre of gravity and hence why it pitched up so much.

The worst thing is that you can quite clearly see them trying to save it all the way until it goes in, just horrible.

A very similar thing happened to a cargo DC-8 taking off from Miami a few years ago. Absolutely nothing you can do when the centre of gravity shifts like that.

Wouldnt like to be working in Bagram load control frown

Horrible incident and so sad that (If it is an actual load issue) that a simple mis-calculation or uld load mistake can cause such a disaster. Very sad

Bloody hell. That is seriously scary, including for those on the ground. As a kid I used to have a recurring nightmare about watching planes at an airport, with one taking off and doing something very similar. Terrified me every time, and this video confirms why. RIP.

Do the straps or the shackles used to secure loads have a life span? say 12 months?

Thankfully my internet connection sat offshore is to slow to watch the video but in the oil industry all slings and rigging equipment needs to be visually inspected and re-certified every 6 months. I'd have thought for such a critical activity as securing the load in a plane it would be the same.

You also have to take into consideration any (Dangerous goods) liquids loaded as if containers are damaged and break open the liquid ends up at the back of the aircraft.

As for strapping, it will likely be floor locks that have given way if that where the case.
