I built the old Airfix Hunter is a Black Arrows scheme when I was a kid.

I had never heard of the Black Arrows until I saw the BBC report on our local news yesterday and I'd spent nearly 14 years in the RAF.

Sqn Ldr Peter Latham, who commanded 111 sqn the Black Arrows, following Sqn Ldr Topp was school hero when I was at St Phil's.

Always good to have some outstanding "old boys".

Ha - so did I Eric. IIRC the nose gear was made to be retractable but the main gear wasn't - didn't understand that even then!

I think mine eventually got remade into a Jordanian version for a "6 days war" diorama

There was a pair of them at Wattisham a couple of weeks ago. Stayed overnight and did practice displays. Great to see Gnats again.

Found this picture. My step-dad is in the lead Hunter, taken in about 1991. He was the last O/C of 237 OCU, and this is one of his last trips before the squadron closed. The Hunters had been painted black to celebrate 40 years since the first flight. Thought it was nice picture.
