Convertible Buses

Not sure this is the right forum but it is sort of other transport related!

I went to Poole by train today and on the return journey I was looking out the window as the train passed the bus depot and there were stackos of the roofs of double decker buses. Do they have convertible buses that they can remove the roof off in summer?

Most bus companies make their own open top buses for tours etc, its as simple as chopping the roof off. They evidently havent disposed of the roofs yet

They appeared to be stacked in special racks, purpose made for the job!

They can either be factory produced or roof lopped off. The roof may be re-attached in winter.

Is it possible they were new roofs (rooves?) at the manufacurers, waiting to be put on new bus bodies?

No, they are stacked at the back of the bus station (which the railway line passes). I believe they are removed from the 'Purbeck Breezer' vehicles for the summer season.

In the 1970s and 1980s some convertible double deckers were built by Eastern Coach Works in Lowestoft on Bristol VRT & Leyland Olympian chassis. This is one of the Bristol VRTs minus roof in Bath.
