Watched this last night - Monster Moves - compared to a lot of documentaries, pretty good I thought.

I did wonder if it was a good idea to put 2 8Fs that hadn't moved for years into a train and tow them for miles without stripping and checking the bearings, which was proved right when one shell bearing fell out!

I guess in fairness, they might have done the checks but TV didn't show that bit.

Amazing that they managed to walk back up the line and find it though!

Caught that by accident last night as well- thoroughtly enjoyed it.

Amazing that the Turks let them do it - I suspect if you phoned Network Rail and asked them if it was ok to haul 2 locos you'd just pulled out of a scrap yard down the East Coast Main Line you wouldn't get very far.

As always with these shows it's difficualt to tell how much of it was been hammed up for the camera - but they seemed genuinely concerned when the driver was exceeding his speed restriction towards the end.

What has/will become of them in the UK ?

Edit - found the answer to my own question - according to Wiki one went to Israel and the other to a preserved line in Norfolk
