Heard a loud jet this afternoon, and looked up to see a BA 747 flying overhead, which was a first for me. I looked on plane finder, and sure enough there it was. The route was apparently Atlanta-Stansted-Paris-Frankfurt-Hong Kong.

Now this is a somewhat unusual route as far as I know!? Anyone know what might have been going on?

They have approx 12 flights a week on behalf of BA, all cargo, if you see one coming in from India it's more than likely carrying pharmaceuticals.

It's an odd set up (my way of saying I don't understand it). GSS have the operating licence, but the aircraft are from Atlas Air, in BA colours using a Speedbird callsign. So it looks like GSS are just in between Atlas and BA to provide the 'wetness' to a wet lease.

One asked me once if they could do an orbit on final (at about 4DME IIRC) as they were too high. I'd love to have seen it, but the answer was a firm 'No'!

hehe Sorry.

A 747-8 on final approach asked to make a 360 degree turn in order to lose height. This was so they could avoid making a missed approach. There were aircraft approaching behind it, which combined with noise abatement meant that it was a no-no.

Sure it would of been quite a sight!
