Eastbourne Airshow 2013
Discussion
I'm off over there at lunchtime today, we'll be on the beach at Spray Watersports down near the Sovereign Centre so we can windsurf while watching the show.
I have a programme in front of me and the Spitfire Mk1X is on at 15.31 today, 16.27 tomorrow, 15.48 on Saturday and 16.03 on Sunday.
The Red Arrows are on at 16.00 today and tomorrow, 17.00 on Saturday and 14.57 on Sunday.
Probably won't go tomorrow but will be there on Saturday, we're having a barbie on Sunday so will hear and see a lot of the planes on their way in or out of the show.

The only reason that 558's displays have been slightly toned down is too ensure she flies on into 2015 & possibly even beyond then.
I was talking to the team at RIAT this year & they have decided to calm it slightly too keep her flying as long as possible. Its either throw her around like they used & risk damage or take the softly softly approach.
Unless you are a complete nerd when it comes to 558, & that is not a criticism, you would be hard pushed to tell the difference.
Certainly the initial climb from take off up the half role at the top of the climb has not been stopped. This is still done & the noise (sorry howl) at take off is epic as is the silence when the power is cut after she is levelled out after the initial climb.
As far as i am concerned the longer she flies the better for us all so i for one would rather see a slightly toned down display than no display at all ever again!!

Not a nerd on 558 but work most air shows so know who's good and who's not. I've seen a change to shows that's had 558 since she's come back and that is less flying displays to pay for her. Personally I'd rather they throw it about hard and have a year everyone will remember than a dull 2 years were everyone moans how boring it is. In other news though its good to see she's now approved for IFR flight and should lead the way to more historic jet aircraft being approved for it.

Agreed, and the lighthouse fly past last year was truly outstanding. Always left to a few to knock something.I was talking to the team at RIAT this year & they have decided to calm it slightly too keep her flying as long as possible.
