Calor Gas - how much?

Called into a marina to buy a spare Calor Gas cylinder (4.5kg butane).
'I'd like to buy a Calor Gas cylinder please, a 4.5kg blue one please'
'That'll be £16 please'
It sounded suspciously cheap so I paid up.
'Where's the old one?' the man asked
'There isn't one, it's spare for when the first one runs out. I only have one cylinder and need a spare in case the first one conks out in the middle of dinner'.
'Ah well we're not an official NEW supplier' he said, 'we only supply refills. But we have quite a lot so we can let you have one. It'll be another £25 please'.
So I paid £41 for a single 4.5 bottle of butane. Did I get done or are they really £41?

You paid a little under the going rate.
I generally get cylinders off ebay - the last one I bought was 4.5KG, about 2/3rds full, and cost me £1.04. However you have to be willing to bide your time but even if you're in a rush you'll get almost any size for £5 - and they're fully interchangeable when you buy refills.

Gah, never thought of that. It was more of an impulse/distress purchase so overall I did about right.
