Winter heating - diesel or electricity?

So HMS Simpo is booked into its winter quarters complete with floating pontoons and shore power - luxury!
I intend the keep the boat, or at least the engine bay and saloon, above freezing at all times. At my disposal are the inbuilt Eberspacher D4 and the aforementioned shore power. The D4 uses a surprising amount of diesel, but electricity is 21p/unit. Should I let the D4 do all the work and keep the electricity as backup, or leave it off and let the electricity do the work? Either system could fail of course - but any idea which might cost less overall?
