'The Enemy Below'; a duel between Robert Mitchum in the US destroyer and Curt Jurgens in the U-boat.

Whatver you do, avoid 'U-571'. The historical inaccuracy is legend but very little else in the film makes sense either. How does Jerry manage to drop depth-charges at the rate of about one a second for 30 seconds all in the same place? Are submarines really lined with pipes full of high pressure seawater that rupture but can be stopped with the handy valve just to the right?
In a quiet moment at work last night we had The Perfect Storm on tv in the background, having worked at sea I had to switch it off as it was annoying me too much.
Wife phoned up to say goodnight, said she was also watching it but had to turn it off as she knew it would've annoyed me if I'd been there so it was starting to annoy her by association!
I think it's very hard to watch a film about your profession (although I never worked for Grey Funnel) or if you have a nugget of historical knowledge, without becoming very critical.

I'll drop in 'The Final Countdown' - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080736/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Sort of Navy(ish). Has some terrible reviews but I think it's a brilliant film!

Another vote for Das Boot here but one favourite is Master & Commander. I can't believe it's 10 years old now.

I like the idea of it a lot. In another arena, you wonder what a Eurofighter might have done had it been over the Channel on 13 Sep 1940.Sort of Navy(ish). Has some terrible reviews but I think it's a brilliant film!

But that would be under 'Good War Movies (Air)'.
