Ryanair & Italy

Anyone got any idea if Ryanair are likely to re-start flights to Italy any time soon?

Need to book flights for May, and currently Jet2 seems the only option, but at a cost significantly more than what Ryanair's would have been.

Do I throw my lot in with Jet2, or do I wait a bit and see what happens with the Ryanair situation?

Ideal is Prestwick - Bergamo (Ryanair)

Jet2 is Edinburgh - Verona

Prestwick's the limiting issue, we're spoiled in the SE, other than a change in london/elsewhere I wouldn't know, sorry

Ryanair flights start May 3rd to Pisa from East Midlands. We have used this service (??) for some 15 years and it has been excellent throughout. Leary is extremely canny and has cut these flights back to reflect the reduced market. We used to travel all year from Birmingham. Birmingham is no more for Leary and in the winter Leeds/Bradford/Dublin are available but too far for us. Good luck.

For clarity, I'm referring to Prestwick - Bergamo here.

I understand flights to Bergamo have been suspended, but flights to Rome & Pisa are still on. I'm talking about from Scotland, obviously.

Can't offer any advice about Ryanair but can say that the Jet2 flights I've used have been remarkably good for a budget airline and I'd pay a reasonable amount more to fly with them instead.

Totally agree with this. There seems to be a company ethos with Jet2 to be friendly and helpful, which is the polar opposite of Ryanair. You get 22kg hold allowance with Jet2, AND they spread this across your party so some can have a bit more if others have less - again totally unlike the fascist ryanair policy.

Been on a few snowboard and golf trips with Jet2 with lots of outsize baggage, and there have been no issues. As above I would (and have) paid a premium to fly Jet2 over Ryanair.

Another big plus with Jet2 is that you get allocated seats.

...plus Edinburgh airport is a lot nicer place to be for a couple of hours than Prestwick!

Ryanair have actually changed a little bit recently, eg they now allow a hand luggage bag AND another small bag on board

It's fair to suggest he seems to be the one who directs the company and makes silly decisions.

It appears he's quite happy to frequently be on tv discussing the virtues of charging for lost tickets et al.

OK, sorry misunderstood that bit!

I won't though, I think he's a complete wker and refuse to add my money to his profits.

I also have a close friend who's an ex RA 737 captain and I have real safety concerns - it not if but when as far as I can see.

I've quoted his story previously but suffice to say he was sacked simply because he refused to fly and risk his and passengers lives.

I agree, on the whole I avoid budget airlines like I would a dose of gonorrhea but LBA, my local airport, does a lot of handy Jet2 flights (including Dubrovnik which I visit quite frequently) which save half a day each end trekking down to LGW or similar and they've always been very good.
