Lovely looking boat. The Soviet Union was a big fan of hydrofoils, they built a big mixture of military and civilian versions.

I'd love to have a ride on one!

In the early 1980s I rode down the Moscow river in a gas-turbine powered passenger hydrofoil that must have held at least 100 people.

Hmm....I like the idea, not sure if my old wood hull would stand it for long, especially with the increased stress of the 500hp I just dropped in her!

What happens on a hydrofoil when the waves get bigger than the depth of the foils? Must get a bit slower/crasty bang?

My understanding is that the foils on the bigger stuff can work in different ways either staying on a level plane when flat and following the sea when larger stuff gets hit. So still foiling but following the contour of the sea.

How this relates to your plan to bolt a few lumps of iron under Playtime I am not sure and really think you need to be looking to a pair of these new Merc 1350's rather than oil burning souped up Sabres.

i remember seeing a dude with hydrofoils on a windsurfing board ! it was 30 years ago but he wasnt hanging around. . .probably at what used to be the Johnnie Walker speed week at chesil beach. . . . around the fred heywood Pascal Maka days
