Vulcan low level

We're blessed with lots of excellent pics and video of modern low-level training flights, but I've always wanted to see pics and videos of when the Vulcans (and Buccs etc as well to be fair) used to train. I assume they used to do the same routes as today?

Anyone got a stash of pics of Vulcans blasting through Cad West?? That would have been a hell of a sight.

By the 70s most Vulcan over land low flying was done out of Goose Bay in Labrador.

As a kid in the 70's we used to look down on Vulcans doing low level at Afon Argoed (now a mountain bike place )in South Wales.

I imagine that was epic! As a kid in Nottingham I saw the Vulcans pretty regularly, but usually at high level at the head of a contrail.

They still did plenty of low flying across Dorset in the late '70s.

In '607', the author recalls the story of a Vulcan pilot disobeying ATC and taking the plane down into the Grand Canyon to the amazement
of those stood on the rim. Would love to have seen that / photos !

Sadly never seen any of the Vulcan low level apart from Windermere.

Up until the mid '90s it was perfectly acceptable for Military a/c to request the 'Grand Canyon Transit' and fly the length of the Canyon in the Canyon. Indeed I did so in Albert.

Sadly, with the rise of the tourist puddle-jumper and helicopter industries this was banned on the basis of Flight Safety.

What where you doing over in the US GG Girl ? Was it a us 130 ?

No it was one of ours. We were transiting to Nellis AFB from Little Rock AFB for Ex RED FLAG.

Imagine the noise with the echo from the canyon!

They went out of service before I was born but fortunately with the Vulcan to the sky charity getting one flying again I've been able to see it taking off and flying about at two airshows. Very cool plane.

I wouldn't worry about it Eric. Having tried and failed to become an RAF pilot I now realise the RAF did me and everyone else a favour by rejecting me - my talents lay elsewhere.

We all need accountants.
