I am venturing to Snowdonia next week, does anyone know if it will be worthwhile heading to the Mach Loop for a bit of spotting?

Don't pay any attention to that, its just the allocated time for the TTA areas in the LFA's where jets are cleared down to 100ft. Although the timings are published it doesn't mean anything is booked in and its also more over towards Llyn Cwellyn I think, not actually part of the Mach Loop.

Not sure how much activity you'll see to be honest as IX, 1 & 6 Squadrons have gone out for Red Flag in the states. I doubt you'll see anything from Marham so I'd say something from Coningsby/Valley/Brize which isn't an awful lot to be honest!

How busy is the mach loop over late July/early august? Bros in law is over from the states and fancied a half day up there...?

Thanks for the heads up chaps, I will be in the area anyway. I am perfectly happy sat around the mountains, just relaxing.

Do the jets get low onto the lake behind Cader idris, or is that just a trick of the videos posted?

Do you mean Tal Y Llyn? I can post a map up when I'm at the comp tomorrow if you'd like.

Google 'Mach Loop Hotel', the hotel that comes up is pretty much at the base of one of the popular viewing points.

Ahh yeah they'll either go straight out over the lake or left at Corris Corner just before the lake!

Thanks Lloyd. I will take my chances by the lake for a bit, then wander up Cad.

If any other PH'ers are around next week let me know, it's always good to meet a fellow car / fast jet nut biggrin
