For the B STOL version anyway. Given the Fairing over the lift fan maybe it should be the "Camel"?

It was christened the Dave by many in a poll a few years ago, and I can't see it ever being referred to as anything else biggrin

Certainly doesn't not in any way deserve the name tag Lightning in UK service - bloody sacrilege!!

It's a big lump that uses brute force and ignorance to beat gravity into submission. I can see how Lightning would be inappropriate biggrin

That said, I do like Dave.

"Freestyle II" would be a good name for it.

Should be the Lightning III then, the RAF did try out the P38 briefly.

It should, because at one stage the F-22 "Raptor" was named the Lighting II too.

The American's often forget about earlier aircraft they have built that carried the same name.

The Vought F4U Corsair of WW2 was actually the second Vought design to be called Corsair. When the jet Corsair II was built in the 1960s, it should really have been the Corsair III.
