Do you have a favourite airliner ?

I love the older ones, I think it was back then they tried diffent configurations and now they are all a bit like the Audi approach of the same thing in several sizes, may be because two engine slung under the wings is the best way to do it but things seemed much more interesting back then, air travel seemed so glamourous (relatively) as a kids, now another slight on an A320 doesnt exite. Still love the new ones but they dont intrigue me like the older ones, part of it comes from living near Manchester Airport.
For me its the 747 SP that is my favourite, the idea of a sawn off Jumbo just makes me smile, then its,

1-11 for me, first flight was in one and years later I have an abiding memory of standing underneath the starboard engine whilst it was doing a full power engine run 
Oh and there was the time that I watched one of our engineers who was called out to a departing aircraft that couldn't start one engine, said engineer retrieved the steps from the forward hold, opened the cowls and gave the starter solenoid an almighty whack, engine started and everyone was happy All this happened in full view of the spectators gallery at LGW

From the oldies (in no particular order)
747sp, VC10, L1011 and of course Concord (which I was lucky enough to fly in once). Living in Berkshire, the 11.30am daily Concord blast is now sorely missed.
From the current crop
A340-600, flown in quite a few and I think they look beautiful

i used to quite like the MD-80s when I was commuting all the time in the US. It seemed to have far better take off performance and climb out then the other aircraft, and was nice and quiet from the first 5 rows. Also cool when they rolled FORWARDS first at the gate for couple of yards before shoving her in reverse and pushing back with no help from boring tractors.
After that KLM MD-11 was quite nice due to the two small cabins at the front for business class.

I've been really fortunate to have flown in all of my favourite and in no particular order:
VC10 - lovely, lovely aircraft and many happy memories in the '70's flying to Iran on them
747SP - Iran Air - engine fell of on the apron on the one I was on but love the look
707 - again to the ME, classic shape for me
early 737's - love the engines! Noisy and mucky
Concorde - only flown on her once - UNBELIEVABLE
747-400 Love the shape, upper deck is nice
A380 - BIG and soooooo, so quiet - going on one Tuesday pm to Dubai and back again Wednesday evening (for a two hour meeting and I'm looking forward to the flight more than the meeting!). Love the ailerons that are so big they're in three parts and dance as it takes off.
TriStar (all Mk's). Cool, lovely unique engine noise on take off and a cool life we used to play in
Vickers Viscount - first aircraft I flew in and what a majestic aircraft that is
Hate DC10's - they crashed quite a lot when I was a child - the rear engine is just looking for trouble in my opinion

Totally agree. On the premise that "if it looks right, it probably is right", the DC-10 should never have got off the drawing board, and the Tristar should have been much more successful.kapiteinlangzaam said:

Yeah, I didn't nominate the normal 747 but I love them, never a been on a 380 and am sure they are nicer to fly on but the 747 defines air travel for me, I chose the 747 SP as it is so odd but the full size ones are fantastic, the Airbus is a massive achievement but it looks like a fat airbus, the 747 has a grace that the 380 cant quite carry off, its that shape. I work with them, and as a controller you can do 'anything' with a 744. Beast of a machine.

I think I have an fondness for it as we are the same age and it sums up how impossibly glamorous air travel seemed to me as a kid, all those films of posh folk on the top deck relaxing in kaftans, smoking and drinking Martinis, you never saw economy class back then.
