What plane did I see!

High wing twin engine, twin-fin tail, square-chuncky fuz. Very noisy, heard it coming for a few mins as it passed over at around 2000'.

Looked like a baby version of a Beverley. Did a quick Google, and nothing shows up.

I rather think the USAF retired their Sherpas a long time ago, but the US Army have been flying them until recently but now also retiring them.

Iraq may have been their service swan song.




NASA and the US Forestry service may still have a couple but I expect what the OP saw was the Skyvan.

A Skyvan in similar colours to that shown above went over me yesterday morning. Guessed it may have just taken off from Castle Donnington, was heading North.

I'm pretty sure I spotted one of these fly over Sheffield on Sunday, looked to be in a two tone finish.

Interesting, never seen one in all the years I have lived there. Didn't even think there were any operating in the UK anymore.

I'm not sure I'd call it either way from the photo alone, unless you can count prop blades the engines are pretty similar at that distance. Press reports indicate its their Friendship that's doing the work, & I don't see any 50s on their fleet list.

I agree but when I saw it first the front portion of the nacelles looks 'bulgier below' than the Dart does so I mentally asked myself the question Eric did.

I wonder if there's been a re-engine programme for them maybe an Allison or PT6A change

(At this point I would usually bugger off and search but I'm a tad tied up [not in a fun or 'such' amusing way] at the mo' so I wont be looking 'til tomorrow.)

G-BEOL damaged its undercarriage at Weston last year, images are about on the net somewhere. The military use them as part of the static line parachute course.

I should have stated I took the photo in Singapore so I guess it belongs to the Sing Airforce .
