I took some yesterday as the weather was pretty lovely and I ought I could snap a couple of them. Took some today as a collegue asked did I want to see the boat on site. So wandered along and took a cpl of pics.

Up nr L'Aquilla btw.

I know nothing about rockets but make sure you have the pointy bit at the top!

As for arty crap, you may be right. I just designed a flag for another forum and they said they preferred the text in Arial

There's no up or down in space.

So - totally appropriate that the pictures reflect that.

Also, astronomical telescopes always show south at the top - so even more appropriate.

It says:

Doesn't make a lot of sense, but it doesn't in Italian either...

Elettra was the yacht on which Marconi conducted his beam transmission experiments. Fucino is the centre of the Italian space industry and in many ways the European space industry...certainly the telecoms aspect.

The Elettra is a very famous vessel. For anybody who is "into" this stuff, it is very very cool.

Elettra is also the name of Marconi's daughter.
