I was listening to the radio in my kitchen today and all of a sudden I heard voices cutting in. After a while of listening I realised it was conversations between pilots and ATC, specifically asking to divert around weather. This made sense as there was a storm about. So my question is, why was my radio picking this up on an FM channel? Hopefully someone will be able to clear this up.

There are a number of reasons why this happens. It may be that your radio is poorly shielded from interference it may be to do with the oscillating frequencies your radio was using creating an image frequency which was similar to the air band one you received.

On higher FM frequencies this becomes more likely (around 108 MHz or above)
