What did I see in Oban Bay today??

Saw this utter beauty (schooner??) anchoring in the bay this afternoon:




Couldn't make out the name as it was just too small but would love to know more about her history and where she's from if anyone recognises the shape?

I had a wild stab that she might be a Fife boat but no idea really...

Anyone know?

I can't see the picture you've posted, but the boss of Ineos' gin palace is supposed to be in Oban at the moment; that's called Hampshire I think.

We were lucky enough to catch her with her sails up briefly, but she furled them pretty quickly before I could get to a decent photo spot!

She made that Ineos gin palace look like an ugly plastic reebok in comparison...

Skippered by an Aussie mate. When she was first built, she had a square foresail. She was launched as Jessica and then named XXXX, the Castlemain beer bloke bought it.

Wiki says she was built in the 80's - I would have assumed much older!

Does anyone know who buy or her history? The website for her is pretty Spartan to say the least...

Yes, Alan Bond, the winner of the Americas Cup. He also owned Southern Cross III. Once they moored next to us in Antibes, in Tiny Rowland's berth. Tiny was so furious they had a slanging match on the harbour wall, right next to me. Alan, who thought that Tiny had anointed him as successor at Lonro, stuffed him right royally in the business world, calling in all his loans at once. He had to sell all his toys very sharpish.

You didn't mess with Tiny. He once called me from Greece at midnight, we had a faulty genset and parked for the night in his berth, I'd phoned his skipper and his wife to see if it was alright. No, he shouted at me for almost an hour(it was very late and he must have been on the Metaxa for a while). My boss, Sir Don, had to call him in the morning to calm him down. Tough old git.
