A quantity of ammunition from the Second World War has been discovered up on the moors near to MOSSLEY on private land. Specifically around the Carrbrook area.
The site of the discovery is near to the crash site of a Liberator bomber that came down in 1943.
The Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) are attending the site on the morning of Friday 23rd May 2014 to dispose of the ammunition. This may involve the use of controlled explosions. The land owner, Fire service and Deputy Force Search Co-ordinator and Divisional Senior Leadership Team are all aware.
IF YOU HEAR ANY EXPLOSIONS THIS WILL BE COMING FROM THIS SITE.
THERE IS NO THREAT TO LIFE AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE ASKED TO NOT ATTEND THE AREA WHERE POSSIBLE

I found a load of corroded live ammo next to Langsett reservoir. I told the Ranger when I got back to the car and he was "meh, happens all the time" before producing a box of assorted casings of all shapes and sizes. It had gone next time I went there.
During WW2, the army used the entire area as a firing range apparently.
