DC3 in Normandy invasion stripes over Basingstoke?

Pretty sure it was a DC3, only caught the rear end as it flew over the house but had the Normandy invasion stripes

Is it based in the area?

I think there are a couple meeting at HMS Daedalus (or whatever it's called now!) in Gosport for the D-Day commemoration. Could be that...

It was the BBMF Dakota just in front would have been the Lancaster and behind 2 spitfires or a spit and a hurricane.

They did a flypast at lee on solent then landed at Southampton. They get airborne at 1040 tomorrow for a flypast over lee on solent at 1045 before heading to France.

There is also a group of Dakotas getting airborne tomorrow morning from Daedalus.

My source that I tipped off at down grange only saw the dak but my other source saw both at Oakley saw both.

We did hear something go over about 15 minutes before spotting this one, was that a Dakota as well?

Sounded beautiful, the Chinooks sound like a gnat farting in comparison

Probably assembling for the Folkestone airshow this weekend. It coincides with D Day anniversary so probably got some invasion era stuff.

No. Assembling for the D Day anniversary events in Normandy. BBMF are then off to the Midlands at the weekend.

Was down at lee on the solent tonight for the D day flypast. Dakota, Lancaster, 2x spitfires and a mustang. Nice little display.

That is a privately owned C-47 (not really a DC-3, strictly speaking) which appears regularly at UK airshows. She was at the Farnborough Airshow press preview a couple of weeks ago.

There's a massed formation of C-47's leaving today to fly in formation over to Normandy for the 70th Anniversary events incl. at least one (possibly more) that actually took part in the D-Day landings 70 years ago.

the DC-3 came right (and I mean RIGHT) over my house at about 11am yesterday. Pretty low & slow. I don't think hit was the BBMF one as no mention on the BBMF daily movements log that would match with this movement. So I guess it was the private C-47 that Eric mentioned...

This C-47 is in US Army Air Force markings (note the stars and bars). The BBMF is in RAF markings.

My Dad went back this morning ans said there were 4 Dakotas that grouped up, I believe they flew over to Normandy.
