The Dakota just flew over our house landing gear down , I guess landing at Biggin Hill.

Oh, is that what's going on today... just as the sun comes out over Hillingdon I was treated to the glorious sight and sound of the BBMF Spit and Hurricane flying overhead in close formation, and now there's a Merlin beating the air into submission. Makes a pleasant change from the usual corporate jets we get buzzing in and out of Northolt.

It was the Northolt fun day air show today, they both landed there. The Mustang also landed.

The red arrows landed at Biggin Hill earlier today.
We've just been treated to a free display from my back garden in the last 30 mins!

The two spitfires flew low over our house - twice.
They were doing a flyby at the village cricket pitch.

Nice to see them in their D-Day identification marks.
One was the low back, clipped wings variant.

The Lancaster passed us in Thame at about 300' to fly over the town carnival enroute to Buck Pal.

Didn't realise this was happening, walked out of work yesterday just as the Lanc went over so the whole lot flew right over my head.
Which was nice.

I'm sure if it's the BBMF pair that it'll have been 2 Spitfires. The Hurricane(s) have been conspicuous by their absence in displays so far this year. Having said that, the display entry on the BBMF site for Biggin Hill Festival of Flight lists Spit/Hur/Dak, yet I'm certain that the Trooping the Colour Birthday flypast was definitely Lanc/Spit/Spit. I'm confused.

To be honest, I'm confused about the whole BBMF policy for displaying their aircraft, both as a group, and with others. I'm sure that the year they did the massed scramble of Spitfires and Hurricanes at Duxford, the BBMF refused to let their aircraft participate, yet I've seen them display with other aircraft in recent years. They also, I'm sure, used to refuse invites to display only parts of the 'flight', ie the Lanc on it's own, or the fighters as solos. That too seems to have gone out of the window. Are airframe/engine hours and availability issues conspiring to water-down the BBMF, or is it just that the stuffed shirts 'with egg on their hats' are just a little more chilled out, and a lot less 'precious' these days?

The QBF was the Lancaster and 2x Spitfires. The Spitfires were chosen as they both carried D-Day invasion stripes, commemorating the 70th anniversary.
