The world’s largest multination naval exercise kicks off Thursday, and this year includes an unusual player: for the first time, the Chinese navy.

China is dispatching four ships to the biennial Rim of the Pacific exercise held around Hawaii, joining 22 other nations in maritime training slated to involve 47 ships, six submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 sailors, 3rd Fleet said in a news release in the run-up to the event.

ETA I hear that North Korea is going to declare war on the USA because they don't like one of their films (no sense of humour those NKs), so maybe that will be a good first test!

My pedanticness isn't necessarily aimed at you andymadmack as I'm guessing you just copied and pasted that list but I thought a CH53 was a Super Stallion which replaced the Sea Stallion and an MH53 is a Pavelow? Unless I'm wrong?

Contractors providing threat simulation (pretending to be low flying anti ship missiles basically) and target towing. Similar role to the Cobham Falcons and 736 NAS (nee FRADU) Hawks.

I guess we've got little money left for jollies after HMS Daring's Pacific cruise last year.

Hunters are good test targets for radars for a number of reasons I'll not bore you all with.
