M-DRIL - Squawk 7700

I have the flightradar24 app and have it set up to notify me of squawks.. I'm not entirely sure where the fascination comes from, but there you go.

During the week there was a private plane M-DRIL flying around the Scottish Borders near Penrith. It squawked 7700 then disappeared shortly after.

I know there can be all sorts of reasons for squawking and for disappearing, but given there was nothing in the news I'm assuming all are ok!!

Is there anywhere that you can find out more info, or are you just relying on forum posts on the app's site etc?

I think a lot of spotters use twitter

If it disappeared quickly it's possible that 7700 was accidentally dialled in. It happens fairly often when people are meaning to select 7000

It was the plane (or the trace at least) that disappeared - at 12,500 feet!

That could happen if he reverted to a 7000 squawk no? Those plane tracker things see only a fraction of the aircraft that actually up there

Which rather indicates it was a bloody silly idea to replace the 4321 Squawk in the first place!

Looks like MS985 just Squawk 7700 off the coast of France and is turning round now
