Exactly. There is only so much footage available to film makers. If you watch enough WW2 docs you are bound to see the same clips used over and over again. Often the clips are not really appropriate to the point being discussed.
In the documentary on Eric Brown they showed German gun camera footage of American B-24s being attacked head on in an attempt to demonstrate the head on tactics adopted by Brown when attacking Focke Wulf Condors.

The other shot, usually shown in Battle of Britain documentaries,, is the mass of Dornier 17s flying in parade formation at what is probably a Nuremburg Rally flypast.

Documentaries like this are aimed at the average person who knows a little not a lot. So to them it doesn't matter if it is a different aircraft or in a different role. I noticed the stock footage but did it ruin my viewing pleasure? No. I'm waiting for a WW2 documentary to be made entirely from the clip of early He-111s over Spain, and the clip from a landing craft as the door goes down with the house in the background.
It doesn't "ruin" the programme - but it does annoy and does hint at laziness and cost cutting on behalf of the programme makers.
The other silly shot that creeps into documentaries, again usually ones on the Battle of Britain, is a shot of a mass take off of Miles Master trainers. They are supposed to be scrambling to intercept Luftwaffe attackers.

Again the programme is not aimed at people like yourself Eric. The type of war documentary your after is probably only available direct to VHS/DVD and I'm sure there would still be inaccuracies. Stop it chaps else you'll get me onto my pet subject of continuity in period dramas. Usually one sees Poirot boarding a train at Marylebone to investigate a murder in Devon hauled by a Standard Class Black 5 which miraculously turns into a Prairie tank as they alight at Kidderminster and take a taxi to the local hotel. Does it spoil the programme? No of course not but with so many preservations lines available these days one occasionally wishes they could at least show the same loco pulling the train as the one they habitually show slipping its wheels in clouds of steam as it struggles away from London.
