US responds to 'unresponsive' plane

The US has scrambled two fighter jets to investigate the pilot of a private plane over the Atlantic Ocean who failed to respond to air traffic control.

The plane is a TBM-900 currently cruising at 270kts at 25,000ft so reckon it will run out of fuel in Colombia.

Small single engined plane did pretty much the same thing but flying east over DC, ended up in the Atlantic.

Sadly it's being reported the aircraft has crashed in Jamaica

Reading that it almost seems the controller could have averted the incident. It would seem from the radio transmissions that the pilot new something wasn't right but with the onset of hypoxia (possibly) the pilot was having difficulties in being clear.
