Local press around here reporting two fatalities and possibly a jet ranger. Very sad. Initial reports that it was the Humberside police helicopter have been confirmed incorrect.

Agusta Bell A206B Registration is out there but I am nor reporting it. Took off from Edinburgh and refueled at Durham and was scheduled to refuel at Humberside before transiting on to Manston

It is indeed very sad.

The helicopter has now been identified and this was a picture taken shortly before the accident

Apparently, according to the reports, and as shown, it was flying at lowish level along the coast, possibly due to murky conditions. No problem with this, but in the event of a technical issue, and in the absence of any floatation equipment, it could be difficult 'auto' or recover to dry land. Another possibility, as with the recent USAF accident in Norfolk, is a bird-strike which can incapacitate either the aircraft or the pilot(s).

Of course that's purely speculation, and we must await the AAIB's preliminary report.

My dad was working from home in Scarborough a few miles up the coast to the north and said it was very murky.
