NPPL changes...... Bit of help!

i am seriously considering getting into flying and the NPPL seems the ideal route (mainly due to cost) however I have read of licence changes for 2015.

I have had a look on a few forums but was unsure of the differences between the NPPL and the LAPL which apparently comes into force during April this year.

Another question is whether it is possible to upgrade from an NPPL or LAPL to a PPL ie can flying hours or exams be used towards the PPL or would I have to start from scratch with a PPL?

Thanks in advance, I am a bit confused and it is probably not helped by the fact I am shattered as our kids are still trying to swap from Australian to UK time!
