Flight Sim experience?

Hi folks

Can anybody recommend a Flight Simulator experience? I mean one of those "full motion" types that they use to train pilots. I've always fancied a go but never got round to it - time to treat myself I think

I'm based near Manchester so preferably anywhere in the North or the Midlands. Having said that I travel to London quite a bit so could fit something in if anywhere local wasn't available.

I'm aware there's a 737-200 sim near York but that seems a bit "old hat" to me. I'd prefer something a bit more advanced (and the bigger the better )

My wife bought me a 60 min experience with these guys for Christmas last year :

We went in the summer, and it was brilliant. I only had 60 minutes, but was asked where I'd like to try a landing - so I picked a couple of places that I had flown into, wanting to see it from the pilots seat.
The time went far to quickly.

this Christmas ... wifey came up trumps and booked me 90 minutes with them. So more of the same, but will try to find something more challenging to fly from and to.

I''e been to the Real one posted above. It was fun, but an elderly 737-200. Hope they have updated the graphics as for that price I'd be unhappy.

I've also been on one run by jetsimulation. I did not really gel with the instructor/owner, not helped as this was a birthday present and he'd pushed my mother towards another more elderly simulator that was cheaper for him and she knew no better.....

Paul - did you go on the "Full Motion" one or one of the other options? I'm just wondering whether the other options are basically the same as playing FSX on a mahoosive TV ?

There's also a company running out of Coventry airport that have a few sims.

If you fancy a 747 Cardiff Aviation have an ex SA full motion sim, I've used it in the past and it's not bad, it's certified for TR's and renewals so it's a good standard

We went to the static one ... so yes it's FSX on a big screen .... with a full working cockpit. I guess it was down to the size of the screen etc, but I found it fully immersive, and it certainly fooled my little brain into thinking we were moving / turning.
My wife sat on the jump seat for about ten minutes, then had to leave the cockpit as she began to feel motion sickness.

Have decided to try one of the fixed base ones first and see how it goes....
