What is the aircraft most recently operated by the UK military of which no examples now exist?

Short Stirling maybe?

I'd regard that as a version of the C130 though, albeit a very odd one.

Does Nimrod MRA4 count as 'operated' in any shape or form?

I think the OP is referring to a main "type" rather than distinct variants.

With that in mind, there are quite a few types of which virtually nothing exists, part from the odd section of fuselage or wing - or a few components.

The Stirling is actually a good example. Others I can think of are the De Havilland Hornet and the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley.

I'm currently sitting in the factory that used to build the Stirling. Rather sad that no examples exist anymore...

There only ever was a single W2 XV208 and she's currently being broken up at Marshalls in Cambridge.

Personally I think it's an absolute disgrace that such a unique a/c wasn't saved.

I think Eric has it with the Hornet, in frontline service & last flight in 1955.
A little before that would be the Bristol Brigand, and a little before that the Fairy Barracuda.

I'm pretty sure there is a Barracuda in the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

Certainly no Spitefuls left but then it was never really in service.

I think it's between the Hornet and the Buckmaster for the most recent extinct types. Both retired about 1955 I think.

Avro Lancasterian? Although early ones were conversions of Lancasters later ones were new builds, used by the RAF and later for engine trials, type retired in 1960. No surviving aircraft.

Do you have a blog/thread on here or something detailing all the things you did during your time with the RAF?

Obviously you might not think it is that significant, but from your well thought out posts on here you seem to know a lot/flown some interesting things.
