Annual Permit renewal today
Discussion
Have had an enthralling 2 days getting under the skin of my aeroplane renewing its permit with the LAA Inspector. The guy is ex RAF engineering and, by his own admission, has been making and mending things for the last 50 years. His knowledge of old school engines, carbs, magnetos, airframes, etc, is quite amazing and will, by his own admission, not be replaced when he kicks it!
Doing the air test post ripping-an-aircraft-apart-then-sticking-back-together was different. But we survived! We had a magneto fail post flight on the run down checks but it was traced to a single earth wire touching the right mag, easily resolved. Also underlined why a/c have 2 sets of mags.
Brilliant couple of days.
