Brilliant BBC reporting again....why can't they even be bothered to spend 30 secs on Google to check the info they write is even vaguely correct....
They got the amount of a/c round the wrong way....
18 x Spitfires and 8 x Hurricanes, I can believe......seeing as they aren't 18 airworthy Hurricanes in the whole world, let alone UK/Europe.

Seems like it was a transposition error and has been corrected. Maybe they read Pistonheads.They got the amount of a/c round the wrong way....

I they've named one of the 'flights' Mortimer Flight, no doubt in tribute to Sgt. (Joan) Elizabeth Mortimer MM, WAAF, who was awarded her MM as a result of her actions at Biggin Hill on the 18th August.

What basis do they operate these flights on? Is it VFR only, or will they use instruments to fly above the clouds and then perhaps drop back down when they are over a "display" area? I guess they would want to be able to be seen s much as possible given the reason for the flights?
Reason I ask is, I don't know whether anything is coming up to London (although I might think that perhaps a run up the Thames would be nice), but the cloud base looks fairly low here in the Isle of Dogs just now (although I never was any good at estimating altitudes from the ground!).

'Patrolling the coast between Southampton and Beachy Head' or similar, it said on R4 this morning. A nice way to commemorate the 'hardest day'. They did a much better job of keeping foreigners out then than we do now.

Aldertag was the 13th.
The Luftwaffe veterans have always had a different timeline of the Battle of Britain than us.
For them it was always from Aldertag (13th Aug) to the date of the withdraw of their forces from the Channel to the East in Preperation for the Invasion of Russia at the end of May 1941.
From the RAF's perspective though, the official timeline of the BoB is from July 10th 1940 to October 31st 1940.
