seems quite odd.. Obviously on a taxiway rather than a runway.
It had passengers on, so was presumably taxiing for take off.

Apparently on the runway:

It isnt BA metal. Comair will provide the aircraft, crew, etc. in exchange for painting it in BA colours and running the service.

it's getting on a bit. 22.5 years old.
Not that this should be a reason for parts failing of course.

So it's a British Airways flight when they sell you the ticket, but when it crashes, it isn't?

I wouldn't quite interpret it like that but as per the bbc news article "Comair operates regional and local flights in South Africa. It uses British Airways-branded planes but its pilots and cabin crew are not from British Airways."

It is a BA flight, just not BA owned/managed hardware and crew, like a wet lease.

So it's kind of, not BA at all...........

So you buy a ticket assuming there's a big name behind however there's actually a small name operating the aircraft confused

It's a franchise. Same as McDonalds. The branding is for the large company, the people etc are working for a smaller outfit.
