2.84 miles in 20 seconds is 8.52 miles a minute

8.52 miles a minute is 511.2 miles an hour

If the F16 only has internal fuel and someone has turned the engine up to 11 I can well believe it.

I've read of an F8F Bearcat sans armour hitting 10,000ft in 81 seconds from stationary.

If the Wikipedia entry is accurate on this point, the F16 climb rate is 50,000 feet/minute which would make 20s for 15,000 quite doable.

From pulling up to levelling it's about 13 seconds? Average speed around Mach 1, and that would also apparently exceed the publicised climb rate of a single seater. It looks like a two-seater to me.

slightly off topic, but there are lots of videos of the blue angels on youtube with the camera facing the pilot and they often display whilst not wearing a g-suit or oxygen mask.

Seems to fly it sensibly by staying in ground effect to build up speed before the zoom climb, however, I'm surprised by the bare hands. I thought that the SOPs (NTOPS?) required gloves to be worn in case of fire?
