I'd prefer that to a 3-4 hr wait in Sydney before carrying on to Auckland.

Believe only the first one was an A380, second and subsequent should be B777-200LR. I guess that will probably change in the near future.
Looked up last nights and that flew south of Western Australia and over Tasmania for the winds.

i've done DXB > LAX which i think was/is 16.5hrs. goes over the arctic which is very cool if not a little disconcerting about your chances in a ditch scenario! worst flight ever in terms of service and cabin crew attitudes, one of only few times in my life that i've had cause to complain to customer services.

will prob. end up doing DXB > PTY [panama] when launched as well. it is supremely boring and a test of patience, but has to be better than the current route which is 28hrs via schiphol.

I'm operating this flight at the end of the month, never got off the plane in NZ before so looking forward to exploring Auckland. The flights going to be a bit of a slog but should be asleep for half of it at least!

Block time (push back to parking on stand) is published as 17:15 AKL-DXB but I understand the actual flight time is in the order of 15 1/2-16hrs.

If you can sleep on it and get comfortable it's better than getting off, blundering about in a foreign airport knackered for a few hours and then finding a new aeroplane.
