Where to watch planes land at heathrow
Discussion
Junior Solo2 is a total trains, planes and rollercoaster nerd.
He would very much like to spend an hour or two watching the planes take off, land and taxi around the airport but he was upset to hear that due to security, viewing platforms no longer exist.
Where would a good vantage point be to watch the planes fly overhead and land somewhere south of the airport? We live Surrey way.
I did think get a tube to Hatton Cross and watch them fly over but now wonder if that might just be a bit too close.
Any suggestions? Sandown Park in Esher is a good place but just a bit too far and want something a bit closer so he can work out what model plane flys in each time.

Some of these locations involve a long walk but there are a few good suggestions.
Also check on somewhere like Flighradar24 before you go to see which way aircraft are landing.

You can get a reasonable view from Cafe Nero in T5 and the seating area behind the bar of the Flying Chariot pub in T2 - both on the departures level. You can also see a far bit from the restaurant in the Thistle in Longford, and the grass bank at the back of the Bath Road Premier Inn is on the perimeter fence. There is also a stand for spotters near the Academy & World Business Centre 1.
If they're landing on 09L then there's a field just off Bath Road, opposite Saints Transport, which they approach over pretty low. Stanwell Moor Road at the end of the runway is also pretty popular with the spotters.
If he's wanting to watch them taxi around and they're departing on 09R then there's an Esso filling station on the Southern Perimeter road just down from T5 where they taxi past very close by. If you're driving up you can park on Oaks Road in Stanwell and it's only a two minute walk to the Esso station.
