Steam Train Experience Day

As per the title, looking for a steam experience day for my father in law and just wondered if anyone has any experiences or recommendations? based in Kent/SE London but could travel for the right experience.

The obvious one at the moment is probably this one but interested to know of any others.

If its a driving experience course you are looking for, most of the major heritage lines provide them. They are quite a money spinner for them

I did one on the Severn Valley Railway at Bewdley/ Bridgnorth a few years ago, and it was a vey enjoyable experience. Googling "steam driving courses" will give you a selection of them around the UK

I volunteer at Telford Steam Railway which is probably a bit far for you, we are already virtually fully booked for this year and are doing well for next year already as well, so would suggest moving quickly whereever you go.

We were recently on BBC home away from home (available on YouTube) which may give you an idea of what to expect.

Sent my dad on a driving day at a steam railway based on Shorpe steel works about 5 years ago.

A bit of a drive to get there (who would want tto go to Shorpe?) but we'll worth it for 200 quid.

He ended up having exclusive driving all day and drove various diesels and one steam locomotive. I also went along and rode in the brake van for much of the day and did get to drive several trains as well at no extra cost.

They have use of the track at the ironworks so quite a few miles of track.
