2016 Duxford Airshows

Quick heads-up for Duxford fans: All airshows are pre-booked ticket only this year, plus you need to get a car park pass. For some shows the parking is free, for others you have to pay.

That's why my Duxford airshow days are now over. Commitments mean I don't really know if I am able to go until day before, so, that's it for me now.

Very sad, after all these years, but, such is life.

The main drawback for me is not being able to decide based on the weather forecast. It takes a lot of risk away from Duxford and puts it firmly with the customer (assuming people book). I'd expect a lot of people turn up on the day not realising they needed to pre-book.

There were very big queues last weekend. Looked like a few classic cars were overheating in the queues (though the TVRs were very brave!)

Think I'll not book at all, and park in a nearby village and walk a bit to get a decent vantage point.

There wasn't an airshow last weekend was there?

I don't know - but there was some car/plane event on. There were big queues on the M11 slip roads and the A505 and there was P51 doing a display before lowering its gear and landing (presumably, I didn't see that as I was driving in the other direction to Sawston). I think I saw other aircraft loitering in the distance, as if waiting for their moment.

It was the classic sportscar show no airshow. The P51 was just flying about in the morning, no other planes other than classicwings and the Blenheim did a flyby before landing in the afternoon having displayed elsewhere.

Shame about pre-book only. I really want to go to the American show this month but you really cannot guarantee the weather

Long range forecast looking OK for next weekend so have booked up a Saturday ticket. Lets just hope it doesn't change.

We'll pre-book as usual. Living in the north of Scotland means any airshow trip needs a level of planning way beyond what locals can get away with (e.g. securing accommodation, preparations for a long weekend away from home, overnight stops around Carlisle as that's as long as 2 children last etc) so pre-booking the tickets is no big deal for us.
