No Reds display at Farnborough - The beginning of the end?

I've tweeted Farnborough for confirmation, but according to the above, there will be no flying display by the Reds this year.

I doubt it'll make any difference at all: Farnborough is primarily a trade show, not entertainment, the slot the Arrows had will be filled with something else. The Arrows air time can then be used to entertain elsewhere.
Maybe during the week, yes, but the weekend, it's always been billed as one of the top attractions. I imagine that the management team for FIA are desperately trying to find something with a "wow factor" to announce.Eric Mc said:

At the last Farnborough they suffered two bird strikes.

It's the headline on the front of the 'News & Mail' currently in local newsagents. I haven't read their piece in detail, but part of the speculation is that it has something in part to do with this last week's spate of military air display teams' crashes around the world.
As for what someone mentioned about nipping up to the heathland between the Basingstoke Canal and Caesar's Camp? I regularly ride my MTB up there, and cannot begin to imagine the cost in manpower and money, and the logistics of denying access to that area to random members of the public. It's huge. The perimeter is more porous than a porous thing, and it's covered in copses of trees and 'dead spots' of low ground where illicit spectators could easily lurk well away from observers watching over the area from official cordons.
Closing that area is stupid anyway. The Red Arrows for example, when displaying at Farnborough, often come out of, or reform into formations over, and pointing directly AT local houses. When they're out toward Bourley Road they tend to be flying 'flat' (lower risk) turns anyway. If they don't display at Farnborough I can't say that I'll miss them. It's a long time since I was particularly enthralled or excited by anything that "Smoke on. Go!" and his chums have done. Some of their display formations have been almost yawn-inducing for quite a few years now...

They tweeted at 9:43 this morning that there would be an announcement later today on this subject.I guess they are on bended knees to the CAA trying to get some sort of dispensation?
