Any passenger ship engineers around?

I'm ex-cruise ships. We had lots of people who'd moved over from cargo ships. Dare I say it generally a better standard of engineering and watchkeeping on 'proper' ships than white boats. Nowadays I would say that being British would be more of an obstacle than where you did your cadetship.
I'm an engineer in the Merch...Your skills will be transferable in any section of the merchant navy, whether it be Cruise, cargo, chemical carriers and so and so on. I wouldn't worry too much about what boats you have sailed on as a cadet.
Moving about allows you to add to your experience which is always good for the CV. I know from a friend that Holland America are currently having a huge recruitment drive for all tickets, maybe worth dropping them a CV.

Doubt your background as a gadge will hamper any job application.
Cruise companies are forever looking for bodies to fill the holes in their rotations so you should get something. However as someone above aluded too... being British might hold you back, they've had an influx of borats and indians in recent years - cheap you see.
Good luck! It's a great career and cruise ships are a great way to get your experience and have a good time doing it.

I spoke to a friend of a friend who is a ChEng with a certain (sailing) cruise company owned by HAL, they seem to take on a majority of brits as officers so sounds promising.
I'm going to put an application in to Viking Recruitment with the company above as primary choice.
My concerns of cargo - cruise - cargo have been quashed as it seems easy to move about.
Are either of you considering private yachts?
