I work out in dusty places. Job is very varied and i get to do all sorts of things.
The job sometimes involves flying around a lot of locations by either helicopters or dodgy looking ex-Russian aircraft.
Recently i had to go around a couple locations in a IL76. Now to be fair i compare this thing to the C17 which is light years ahead. This particular aircraft was built in 1982. The co-pilot, who in the video is sitting on the right is 23 years old. Top bloke, only person in the crew who could speak half decent english! But the thing has not gone "tech" or in plain english, broken down for weeks. Cant say that of certain RAF aircraft!

Pilot on left and Co-Pilot on the right. Guy in the middle works the throttles. There is another crewman out of shot working the radio. Awesome guys to work with.

As a matter of interest, why have a throttle man when the pilot or copilot can do that - I thought most pilots operate the throttles when they are landing

Not sure of the reasoning. Occaionally the pilot would operate them but it was the middle man majority. What they did say is the "upstairs" crew work together all the time. And i did notice that without either pilot saying anything, the middle man would be reducing/increasing throttles on his own choosing. So i suppose you get to know what each person wants working together??
The flightcrew you see in the vid have returned back to home base and i have a new lot now but the engineer/loadmasters from when we first leased it are still here.
That clip was when it first arrived, may have even been the 2nd flight, later on in clips they come in to the runway little bit quicker, with last min turns over the approaches.
