Oil Tanker Bow Shape
Discussion
Hello
I work at an Oil Terminal in the Arabian Gulf.
I deal with the Oil Cargo Loading and Certification.
We get a lot of older tankers in with the bow nose visible when the tankers are empty. When loaded the nose is not visible.
Recently we have had a few new tankers on their maiden voyage with no bow nose and an almost vertical bow. It may even be a reclined bow by a few degrees.
Can anyone explain the new bow profile and lack of nose??
Thanks

Sorry for bumping my own post but............. The definitive PH bulbous bow thread HTH
The bow of AIDA Prima and her sister Perla were designed without a bulbous bow, as it was reckoned that, with the design speed/routes of the ship, she wouldn't benefit from having one. 'Challenging' paintwork aside, I quite like the bow shape; very reminiscent of ships of the 'Dreadnought'-era!
