Just wondering if any aviation fans live close to Heathrow on here and can pick up the ground comms on an airband radio?

Not close enough.

Why, by the way?

I'd be very careful unless you have permission you'd be breaching the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 I believe.

It seems you may be well versed in electronics

do you know of anyone who could look at my scanner which appears to be receiving static and no transmissions. It has been lying idle for about a year,

What do you mean by ground comms? Their tower frequency?

Essentially, yes. As a general rule unless you live fairly close to an airport and have a rough line of site from your antenna to theirs, you won't be able to pick up the controller side of the comms, only the planes. smile
