Just wondering if any aviation fans live close to Heathrow on here and can pick up the ground comms on an airband radio?

do you know of anyone who could look at my scanner which appears to be receiving static and no transmissions. It has been lying idle for about a year,

Essentially, yes. As a general rule unless you live fairly close to an airport and have a rough line of site from your antenna to theirs, you won't be able to pick up the controller side of the comms, only the planes.
