Although we all know that the train won't be along for aome time, we all have to say he's an idiot. His biggest risk was colliding with the far barrier, not the train.

Anyone know typical timings at this crossing?
It's not one where the barrier comes down and youre stuck for what seems like half hour

I might be wrong but I think it's 2 minutes before and after any movement.

I work quite close to a level crossing and this happens more often than one might think although not quite as tight. Also lost count of the times I've heard the yarn about the old lady tying her dog lead to the barrier while she waited for the train to come...

A LC near me has the barriers (full barriers, not half barriers) come down a full 5 minutes before the train comes through - but they go up as soon as the train has cleared the crossing.
