As the title says about an hour ago, flying the lowest I've seen Hercs fly in years! Any idea what they'd be up to? Never normally see any military aircraft around here.

I remember years ago being on the edge of Lansdown and one flew by so low I was able to look down on it, I was certain I was about to
witness something not very nice about to happen, when about a minute later his pal flew by at about the same altitude....

I found out later they follow the Cotswold Escarpment from towards the Stroud direction as part of low lying training.

Exercise Joint Warrior is taking place at the moment just along from my house at Keevil (9 miles south of Bath), so military activity has been different to the norm locally for the past week.

Not sure if the C130s are involved but as well as the usual C17s we've had A400Ms banking very low over the house for the past week, quite noisy!

Keevil is a DZ regularly used by Hercs for airdrop sorties.

We used to live in Keevil, loved seeing/hearing all the Hercules. I remember coming home one day in the dark and seeing a couple of Apaches just popping their head up, pretty impressive.

Also had a go in the glider from Keevil, great fun.

I saw a C130 at low level the other night, stunning! I was at the top of a local crag (Cowling, near Keighley) as it pulled up out of the valley and went over the top, on it's side hugging the ground!

We get a bit of mil traffic and I've been wanting to see something from up there for years! biggrin

Don't see Hercs very often at all now since Lyneham closed but get very frequent visits from C17s on clear evenings, and more recently the A400M has become a regular visitor, they throw them about a bit. The C17s literally shake the house, never get used to them banking overhead, they look so big and lazy and I feel very inconsequential stood underneath them!

Still lots of Apaches and very rarely an Osprey.

I watched a A400M on ABS Exchange last week showing a height of -50 feet, I think somewhere near Keevill.
Was worried I'd just seen one "go in".

yikes

They have been flying very low here, but maybe not that low! I was a little surprised how low when they bank pretty hard after flying over Keevil, particularly as that was being done over fairly dense built up residential areas.

Touch and go at Keevil I guess, I can't see the airfield directly from my house but they've been dropping low enough out of view that they could have been doing that.
